In 1975, three American students traveled to Taiwan in search of an authentic Taoist teacher. A few inquiries directed them to Hua-Ching Ni. Master Ni, as he was then called, had a thriving medical practice and many dedicated spiritual students in Taipei. After staying with him for several months, the American students invited Master Ni to live and teach in Los Angeles. He accepted their offer and landed in L.A. a year later where a house had been set up for him in the Malibu hills.
The Ni family home in Malibu also functioned as a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic and included a room with a shrine for spiritual studies. Hua-Ching Ni soon gathered a new group of dedicated spiritual students and began to teach them the Integral Way. He also traveled and lectured all around the country and his influence spread internationally.
Around this time Master Ni also began to write books in English, assisted by his western students. Many of these books are elucidations of the classic Taoist texts, including Master Ni’s translation of the I Ching, The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth. Much of this information had not been available before in the West.
In 1983, Master Ni and his students formed the Universal Society of the Integral Way (USIW). This non-profit group was headed, staffed, and run by the students. It was now time for the students to bring the message of the Integral Way to the world and several local centers were founded, including those in Atlanta and Los Angeles. The activities of the USIW included a yearly Retreat where students from around the world gathered to share Master Ni’s teaching. They also formed the College of Tao around this time to help begin a more systematic teaching.
The Integral Way activities and organization expanded. Master Ni, a prolific writer, continuously produced and published books on subjects such as meditation and internal alchemy. Videos and DVDs followed, featuring movement practices such as tai chi, qi gong, and Dao-In. In 1993 the Universal Society of the Integral Way became the Integral Way Society.
Master Ni was later joined by his two sons, Maoshing Ni and Daoshing Ni , who had become accomplished Chinese Medicine Doctors and Spiritual Teachers, and together, they formed the Tao of Wellness Clinic and Yo San University. They also formed the Chi Health Institute to facilitate the teaching of the Integral Way to the public. With the encouragement of his sons, Master Ni eventually began to introduce the previously well-guarded inner teachings to the public, including InfiniChi healing and the Advanced Traditional Practices (ATP).
Like our world, the unfolding of Master Ni’s teaching is always changing and adjusting in response to new conditions. To help build a more peaceful and sustainable world, Hua-Ching Ni and Maoshing Ni have developed the teaching of the Integral Way into an effective and understandable formula, called the Path of Constructive of Life (PCL). The foundation teaching of the PCL is how to achieve health in the five key areas of your life. Those who attain the five healths have no burdens or entanglements, and are able to enjoy a life of fulfillment and happiness.
