Upcoming Tao Te Ching Class We are excited to announce an upcoming Tao Te Ching Class which will start on Friday, May 7th. A long time student of the Integral Way, Matthew Bauer Lac., will be teaching the class. Matthew began his study of the Integral Way Teaching in 1978 when he took a class with Hua-Ching Ni. Ever Since then, he has spent many years reading and studying Hua-Ching Ni’s books and particularly the Tao Te Ching and I Ching, the two most fundamental works for the Integral Way teaching. We hope you can join us and participate in the discussion. Matthew will be using Hua-Ching Ni’s “The Complete work of Lao Tzu, Tao Teh Ching & Hua Hu Ching”. The book can be purchased through Tao EShop. As a member, you are eligible for 10% discount for all books. [You must call the Yo San Bookstore ( 800-578-9526) for the discount.] You are welcome to use your favorite Tao Te Ching version to participate.
Dr. Mao’s upcoming Five Healths Tele-seminar This month, Dr. Mao gave an introduction on the Five Healths, the core teaching of the Path of Constructive Live (PCL). PCL extends the Integral Way teaching, the thousands of years of wisdom, to our modern day life and provides practical tools to help people live a happy fulfilling life. In the next five months, he will devote his talks to each Health and how the particular aspect of each Health can affect ones life. These Five Healths are: Health of Body, Mind, Spirit, Morals, and Financial. Next month’s tele-seminar is on May 16th (7:00-8:00 A.M. PST). Dr. Mao will focus on Physical Health.
We have moved Dr. Mao’s monthly tele-seminar to our Blog area where you can listen and write your comments, questions and future topic suggestions. To download his talks, please go to “Resources” and click under “Listen and download Dr. Mao’s talk”.
Upcoming Tai Chi Retreat In the fall, there will be a Tai Chi retreat with Dr. Mao and the Integral Way friends in New Mexico. The Southwest Integral Friends are sponsoring this event. It will be a focused experience in the Ni family movement art of Harmony Style T’ai Chi. This retreat is for both newcomers to tai chi who will be able to learn and master a short form as well as for those who have been practicing for long time and look to deepen their practice and explore the spiritual root of this form. Excerpts from the “Love of Mother Universe” book discussion There are wonderful insights and sharing from Barbara Wolff in the Discussion Forum for the “Love of Mother Universe” book discussion. We hope you have enjoyed reading her posts. Although the book discussion for LMU is at its closure, you are welcome to continue posting any further question or insights. This section for the LMU book discussion will stay open for further questions and sharing of insight. If you have not finished book, take your time and you can continue to post under “LMU continued book discussion” or respond to current topics/parts. Your questions or sharing will automatically go to Barbara or others you are responding to.
Here are few excerpts from the book discussion: "…For me the essence of these efforts is in making friends with the moment whatever it may be--a crushing feeling, a defensive one or an uplifting one—just be with it. Be awake, alert to the moment not carried away by the thoughts so we gradually weaken the prison of our mental energy shapes and their associated e-motions and open the space to being life, just plain, open life. …
When we do not impose a stream of thoughts, emotions, namings onto Great Nature we meet Her and ourselves in a fresh, deep way. And feeling that essence in other things and lives, we feel it in ourselves. We sense the one essence in every thing--every creature, person--and love it as ourselves.”
“…Now that we have allowed our minds to open to the image and or experience of being a natural universal being and of embracing the virtuous universal supportiveness of nature, we can allow the impressions and energies from these prayerful pieces to absorb more deeply into our being; to saturate our cells with the universal essence of what we are. To be touched, grateful and humbled before Her never-ending Love and nourishment.
The teaching of the Integral Way encourages people to make peace with themselves and the world via personal spiritual development. Only then can we be free...”
---By Barbara Wolff, the editor of the book.
Excerpts from Discussion Forum During his recent talk at Yo San, Omni mentioned that the practice of self-inspection is the most effective way to help one’s self-cultivation and self-refinement. We have compiled a basic Self-inspection practice from several his books on the website under Discussion Forum “Chi Movement and Spiritual Self-Cultivation Practices” section.
“… Sometimes things happen that are related to the more subtle sphere of your mind, such as subconscious images, projections, or unconscious self-suggestions. These things may strongly influence you without actually coming to the surface of your knowing. This is why it is good practice to take sometime every seven days to establish a self-inspection to figure out what subtle things are bothering you… You examine the issues and conflicts in yourself and in your life to see what you can improve...”
Excerpts from “Highlights from Omni’s published and unpublished works” “All people are born into the world with the possibility or potential to attain spiritual achievement if they keep their way straight and live a fundamentally upright life. I am not talking about just being fascinated by spiritual experiences, but true achievement. It is the foundation that people lay in their lives which is more important than any spiritual discipline done apart from regular, daily living…
The most important practice of everyday life is to maintain a good heart and an upright mind. Besides being the cultivation itself, these things are the reward of your life. The true meaning of life is not social glory, good fortune, a long and happy life, or immortality. These things are not even very important. The most important thing in life is being good spirited." --- from “Mysticism," by Hua-Ching Ni, posted by Vlasta.
“Long ago, a developed teacher asked Yao, ‘As a man of authority, how do you use your mind?’ ‘I have sympathy for the defenseless,’ replied Yao. ‘I help the poor. I grieve for those who die and comfort the widows. I have compassion for the orphans. Beyond this, nothing.’ ‘That is good!’ cried the teacher, ‘but it is not yet of greatness.’ ‘In that case, what should I do?’ inquired Yao. ‘Be receptive’ said the teacher, ‘like the virtue of the universe. The sun and moon shine; the four seasons change; day and night interchange; clouds come and rain falls. All follow what is nature.’ ‘Oh my!’ cried Yao, ‘what disarray I have been causing. You move in harmony with nature; I move in harmony with man.’ It was in nature that the ancients found their greatness. The Yellow Emperor, Yao and the developed teachers are unified in their respect and exaltation of it. So how did the ancients care for the world? By acting like all of nature.’ --- “Attaining Unlimited Life, The Teachings of Chuang Tzu,” by Hua-Ching Ni, posted by Vlasta.
