Traditional Chinese Medicine has its origin in ancient Taoist philosophy which views a person as a complete energy system in which the body and mind are unified, each influencing and balancing the other. It emphasizes a holistic approach to treating disease by seeking the root cause of the condition and considering the whole body. The treatments generally involve acupuncture and herbs, and sometimes tuina massage. In addition, specific nutrition and lifestyle changes are often recommended. Many people have found the TCM methods of healing to be excellent tools for preventing illness as well as for maintaining their health.
TCM treatments focus on the chi meridians, or energy channels, which circulate the chi, or energy, throughout the body. As long as the chi flows freely through the meridians, the bodily health is maintained, but once this flow is blocked, the system becomes disrupted and pain and illness occur. Imagine rivers that flood and cause a disaster, or an electrical grid that short-circuits and causes a blackout. Acupuncture and herbs work to balance and restore the normal bodily functions by stimulating certain points on the meridians to free up the chi. TCM can go as deep as is needed for each individual and is effective for physical, emotional, and even spiritual health issues.
Many of our mentors and coaches are TCM practitioners. A list of TCM clinics operated by the mentors and coaches of the Integral Way can be found here: List of the TCM Practitioners. Included on this list is the Tao of Wellness a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic founded by Dr. Maoshing Ni, Dr. Daoshing Ni, and their father Hua-Ching Ni. It is a well known healing center promoting integrated health, well-being, and longevity that has been voted “Best in LA.”
